Welcome to Hullabaloo Kennels: Breeding German Wirehaired Pointers with Purpose

Welcome to the very first edition of The Hullabaloo Journal!

Whether you’re a longtime friend, a fellow German Wirehaired Pointer enthusiast, a hunter, or someone searching for your next four-legged companion, we’re excited to have you here.

Hullabaloo Kennels was built on a passion for preserving everything that makes the German Wirehaired Pointer such an exceptional breed. Our goal has never been simply to produce puppies—it has always been to produce dogs that are healthy, structurally correct, intelligent, driven in the field, and wonderful companions at home.

Every litter is carefully planned with the future of the breed in mind. We place tremendous importance on health, temperament, working ability, and conformation because we believe these qualities go hand in hand. A truly versatile German Wirehaired Pointer should be able to spend the morning hunting birds, the afternoon competing in the show ring or a performance event, and the evening relaxing with its family.

Our dogs are active participants in the activities they were bred to do. From hunting and hunt tests to conformation and other performance sports, they continually demonstrate the versatility and work ethic that have made this breed so respected. These experiences also help guide our breeding decisions as we strive to improve with each generation.

Puppy raising begins long before our puppies leave for their new homes. During those first weeks of life, we focus on careful handling, early socialization, confidence-building, and positive exposure to new sights, sounds, and experiences. These early foundations help prepare puppies for successful transitions into their new families.

One of the most rewarding parts of breeding is watching our puppies grow into accomplished hunting partners, show dogs, performance competitors, and beloved family members. Nothing makes us happier than receiving updates from owners sharing hunting photos, ribbons earned, or simply pictures of their dogs curled up on the couch after a day of adventure.

This journal is our way of bringing you along for the journey. Each week we’ll share stories from around the kennel, training tips, puppy updates, health and nutrition information, hunting adventures, show results, and insights into life with the incredible German Wirehaired Pointer.

Whether you’re waiting on a future puppy, already part of the Hullabaloo family, or simply interested in learning more about the breed, we hope you’ll visit often and follow along.

Welcome to the World, Piper’s Puppies!

It’s been an exciting week here at Hullabaloo Kennels! After 12½ hours of labor, Piper welcomed nine beautiful, healthy German Wirehaired Pointer puppies into the world. Watching a litter arrive is always an incredible experience, and we’re so proud of Piper for being such an attentive and devoted mom.

The first few days of a puppy’s life are critical. During this time, our focus is on ensuring every puppy is nursing well, gaining weight, staying warm, and thriving. Around-the-clock monitoring, regular weigh-ins, and careful observation help us give each puppy the best possible start.

One of the questions we’re asked most often is, “What happens next?” Over the coming weeks, these puppies will reach exciting milestones. Their eyes and ears will open, they’ll begin exploring their surroundings, and we’ll start introducing gentle handling and early neurological stimulation to help build confident, resilient dogs.

As the puppies grow, they’ll be exposed to a variety of sights, sounds, surfaces, and experiences through our puppy enrichment program. These early lessons help lay the foundation for successful hunting partners, show dogs, performance competitors, and wonderful family companions.

We’re incredibly excited to watch this litter develop and can’t wait to share their journey with all of you. We’ll be posting regular updates, photos, and videos as these little ones grow into the remarkable German Wirehaired Pointers we know they can become.

Life in the Whelping Box: The First Week with Piper’s Litter

The past week has been one we’ll never forget here at Hullabaloo Kennels. Piper welcomed nine healthy German Wirehaired Pointer puppies, and our days (and nights!) have quickly settled into the rewarding routine that comes with caring for a newborn litter.

While most people see the adorable puppy photos, there’s so much more happening behind the scenes. The first week is all about monitoring the puppies to ensure they’re nursing well, steadily gaining weight, and staying warm and comfortable. Every day includes weight checks, bedding changes, health assessments, and making sure Piper has everything she needs to care for her babies.

Piper has embraced motherhood beautifully. She’s attentive, gentle, and rarely wants to leave the whelping box for more than a quick break before returning to her puppies. It’s always amazing to watch a mother dog instinctively care for her litter.

Over the next several weeks, these tiny puppies will change dramatically. Their eyes will open, they’ll begin hearing the world around them, and before long they’ll be taking their first wobbly steps. As they grow, we’ll begin introducing age-appropriate enrichment and socialization to help them develop into confident, well-rounded German Wirehaired Pointers.

Our goal has always been to produce dogs that are as exceptional in temperament and health as they are in structure and ability. Whether they’re destined for the show ring, hunting field, performance sports, or life as a beloved family companion, every puppy receives the same level of care and attention from day one.

When people visit our page, the first thing they usually notice is the puppies—and who can blame them? Tiny noses, sleepy cuddles, and playful personalities are hard to resist. But at Hullabaloo Kennels, there’s so much more behind every litter than adorable photos.

Every breeding is carefully planned with one goal in mind: producing healthy, sound German Wirehaired Pointers that exemplify the breed in both temperament and structure. We consider pedigrees, health testing, working ability, and personality long before a breeding ever takes place.

Once puppies arrive, the work truly begins.
