Health Testing

Health Testing at Hullabaloo Kennels

Breeding for a Healthier Future

At Hullabaloo Kennels, we believe that responsible breeding begins long before puppies are born. Every breeding decision we make is guided by our commitment to producing healthy, sound, and well-rounded German Wirehaired Pointers.

Health testing is one of the most important tools we have to help protect the future of the breed. While no breeder can guarantee that a dog will never experience a health issue, careful health screening allows us to make informed breeding decisions and reduce the risk of passing on inherited conditions.

Our goal is simple: to produce puppies with the best possible chance of living long, healthy, active lives.

Why Health Testing Matters

A beautiful pedigree and championship titles are important, but they should never take the place of good health.

By health testing our breeding dogs before they are bred, we gain valuable information about their orthopedic health, genetic background, and overall suitability for our breeding program. This allows us to make thoughtful breeding choices that benefit both our puppies and the future of the German Wirehaired Pointer.

Responsible breeding means looking beyond today and always keeping the next generation in mind.

Our Health Testing Program

Every dog considered for our breeding program is evaluated before being bred. Depending on the individual dog and current breed recommendations, health testing may include:

  • OFA Hip Evaluation

  • OFA Elbow Evaluation

  • Cardiac Evaluation

  • Eye Examination by a Board-Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist (CAER)

  • Appropriate DNA testing when recommended for the breed

  • Additional health screenings as advised by our veterinarian and current breed recommendations

We continually educate ourselves on the latest health recommendations and work to ensure our breeding program reflects current best practices.

More Than Test Results

Health testing is only one part of responsible breeding.

When planning a litter, we also carefully evaluate:

  • Temperament

  • Breed structure

  • Movement

  • Hunting ability

  • Trainability

  • Longevity within the pedigree

  • Overall breed type

  • Genetic diversity and compatibility

Every breeding is planned with the goal of producing puppies that are healthy in both body and mind.

Raising Healthy Puppies

Our commitment to health continues after our puppies are born.

From day one, every puppy receives attentive care and age-appropriate veterinary guidance. They are raised in our home where they benefit from:

  • Daily monitoring and handling

  • Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

  • Early Scent Introduction (ESI)

  • Regular nail dremeling beginning at one week of age

  • Daily cleaning and sanitation

  • High-quality nutrition

  • Routine deworming

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations

  • Veterinary wellness examinations before going home

We believe healthy puppies begin with healthy parents and are supported by exceptional early care.

Lifetime Support

Our responsibility doesn’t end when a puppy leaves for its new home.

We remain available throughout your dog’s life to answer questions about nutrition, training, health, and general care. We value the relationships we build with our puppy families and appreciate updates as our puppies grow.

The long-term health and well-being of every Hullabaloo Kennels puppy will always be important to us.
